Canberra City Health Network consists of Osteopaths, Physiotherapists, Remedial Massage Therapists, an Exercise Physiologist , DietitianPsychologist, and our administration team. We are a close team with the common goal of providing a high standard of patient care.

What sets us apart?

We know you have a choice when seeking out treatment. As a valued patient we hope you don’t need any convincing to come and see us at CCHN, but we wanted to take the time to tell you about what happens behind the scenes that set us apart from others.

Underpinning everything we do is the strong belief that going the extra mile to give our patients the best experience is a true point of difference.

Our practice is built around teaching – CCHN prides itself on being a teaching and education hub for both students and registered clinicians. We often have fourth and fifth year Osteopathic students in the clinics doing their placement programs. These placements allow students to observe senior clinicians and be exposed to a far greater array of cases than they would otherwise see in their university setting. The result is a learning experience like no other. It also gives them a glimpse into what life will is like in world of a registered health professional. Student placements also give us the opportunity to offer supervised student-led treatments at a substantially discounted rate. Keep an eye on our Facebook page or let us know if you would like to be notified of these opportunities.

We are committed to continued professional development – Dr BJ Field (Osteopath/Director) has developed more than 25 tutorials designed to support the professional journey of our practitioners. The tutorials range in topics covering many aspects of patient presentation, treatment and management. These have proven to be a great way to foster a culture of ongoing and continual learning. We always encourage our practitioners to explore special interests of their own, and they are always eager to share their new found knowledge with the rest of the team. This means everyone gets to benefit from the experience.

To ensure our professional development is best practice, Dr BJ Field has completed a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education. Following on from his study in the area, Dr BJ Field has co-authored a paper titled “Enhancing clinical education in the private practice setting: A case study in osteopathy” which was published in the International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine. This has given him the framework to ensure that CCHN is a successful teaching and learning environment for our clinicians and ultimately to the benefit of our patients. We are also excited to announce that Dr Brad Hocking is currently studying his Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education at the University of Melbourne to further build this culture within CCHN.

We have an open-door policy – At CCHN, a second opinion is only ever a door-knock away. Having such a large, experienced team of health professionals under the one roof means that in any circumstance where a clinician wants a second set of eyes on a case, it’s as simple as grabbing another clinician down the hall. This allows for instantaneous case discussion to occur to ensure that the patient is receiving the best treatment and management advice possible.

This policy is a cornerstone of our intra-clinic referral. As clinicians know which other staff have skills and knowledge in different areas, they also know other treatment options may provide quicker and longer lasting relief of symptoms. Often, our practitioners will refer or co-manage patients alongside Physiotherapists, Exercise Physiologists and Massage Therapists. This means as a client you have the skills and knowledge of our entire network to find the best treatment options for you.

This also extends outside of CCHN. As talented as our practitioners are, as a network we intimately understand that your injury may benefit from other health professionals. For example, if you have low back pain with tingling into your big toe may require a MRI or a review with a Neurosurgeon. We encourage our clinicians to attend ACT health seminars which are run by surgeons, GPs and other allied health professionals. This puts our practitioners at the forefront of engaging health providers to assist in the management of your condition.

We genuinely care – All our clinicians take pride in being a team of like-minded empathetic health professionals who all genuinely care about the health and wellbeing of our patients. We feel honoured and excited about the role we can play in helping you achieve better health outcomes. And we look forward to looking after you for as long as you need us.
